Lesson Dino vs MagicSchool: a MagicSchool alternative for whole lessons

MagicSchool gives you a large toolbox of AI tools. Lesson Dino does one job: a whole lesson from one topic, with sources you can check. Here's how they compare.

The short answer

  • Choose MagicSchool if you want one place for many different jobs, from rubrics and report comments to tools your students use, and if your school or district needs its privacy agreements.
  • Choose Lesson Dino if your main job is planning lessons, and you want the plan, slides, worksheet and videos for a lesson made together, from one topic, with numbered sources.

What MagicSchool is

MagicSchool calls itself "an AI education platform for every classroom and learner". It offers more than 80 AI tools for teachers and more than 50 for students. Teacher tools include a lesson plan generator, a presentation generator, quiz and rubric makers, writing feedback, report card comments and IEP drafts. For students there is an AI tutor and other student tools.

It works with Google, Microsoft, Canvas, Clever, ClassLink and Schoology, and offers dashboards for school districts.

What MagicSchool does well

  • Breadth. If a teaching task involves writing, there is probably a MagicSchool tool for it.
  • Student tools. It has tools for students as well as teachers, including an AI tutor.
  • For whole districts. It's built for schools and districts, with integrations and dashboards. Its site says it is FERPA and COPPA compliant, SOC 2 certified, and that it doesn't use student or teacher data to train AI.
  • A free plan. Teachers can start for free, with paid plans for more.

What Lesson Dino does differently

Lesson Dino doesn't try to be a toolbox. It does one job: it plans a whole lesson.

  • Everything from one topic. Type the subject, year group and topic once. You get nine lesson ideas, a timed lesson plan, video clips, slides and a printable worksheet. They share the same facts, so they match.
  • Sources first. It looks the topic up before it writes, including your country's curriculum documents where it can find them, and numbers every source.
  • Printable worksheets. A4 pages with an answer sheet, from more than 100 kinds of task. For maths, it draws diagrams from the numbers and checks the answers with code.
  • Videos with timings. The best YouTube clips for the topic, the part of each one to play, and what to ask afterwards.
  • Your slides, your way. 80 designs or your school's own PowerPoint template, with real photos and diagrams and their credits. Present in the browser or download PowerPoint.
  • Your country. Your country's spelling, money, units and year group names.
